The Heart and Mind Made New: A Conversation with the Seer”

The little country church was already warm with song when the pastor motioned the Seer forward. He never asked for the microphone, but somehow it always found its way into his hands. He stood there—calm, steady, joyful eyes bright with that inward fire—and began as he always did, with the simple truth.

“Brethren,” he said, “we are gathered here today to hear again what our Father calls sin, and how He has provided the only way to be rid of it. This knowledge is the foundation of our faith. It is the doorway into the house of righteousness.”

He paused, letting the room settle. “The mind,” he continued, “is our boon or our bust. Victory or defeat—it all begins there. But the mind cannot stand on a sure foundation until the heart is made right with its Maker.” He opened his Bible and let the pages fall where they wished.

“Mankind is born into a spiritual condition that naturally breaks the Ten Commandments. People lie, cheat, steal, covet, commit adultery, and place a thousand things above their Creator. That is the human condition. And our Father calls it sin (I John 3:4). But now He is calling all men everywhere to repent of that old nature. And He has provided the way.

Long ago He promised us a new heart. “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD [YAHWEH]. “I will put my law in their minds. This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people” (Jeremiah 31:33).

The Seer lifted his eyes. “The Father poured Himself—He who is Spirit—into a chosen vessel. In English we say Jesus Christ, but His Hebrew name is Yahshua. That Man from Galilee carried our sins in His own body. He died, was buried, and rose again after three days and three nights. But here is what most churches never teach: we sinners must place our old spiritual heart, our old sinful nature, upon the cross with Him. Not symbolically. Not poetically. But in a revelatory spiritual act.”

He tapped the pulpit lightly. “We must let the old nature die with Christ, be buried with Him, and then—by faith in the operation of God who raised Him from the dead—we too may walk in newness of life, never to sin again (Romans 6:1–6; Col. 2:11–13; I John 3:9). All we must do is believe that He was raised. For believing in His resurrection opens the door to believing in our own resurrection.”

He closed the Bible gently. “Paul explains it plainly: ‘Being made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness’ (Rom. 6:18). And the Master Himself said, ‘Whosoever commits sin is the servant of sin… and no man can serve two masters’ (John 8:34; Matthew 6:24).”

That was the heart of his message that morning.

Later, back at the mission, we met briefly for a bit of questions and answers. I finally asked him about what had been stirring in me all morning.

“You mean,” I said, “a person can change so much that they won’t do the bad things they’ve always done?”

He nodded. “Exactly. It is possible. ‘For with God all things are possible… all things are possible to him that believes.’”

“But the preachers,” I said, “they teach the opposite. They say as long as you live, you’ll sin.”

The Seer sighed—not in frustration, but in sorrow. “I know what they teach. But they are confused from the start. They have never narrowed down in their minds what sin is. They do not see that sin is the breaking of the Ten Commandments. They do not see that the old Adamic nature is the engine that produces sin. And they do not see that God has provided the way out. But that way costs us our old life.”

“That’s why people don’t want this message,” I said. “They know they’ll have to change.”

“Exactly,” he replied. “A classic case of wanting one’s cake and eating it too. Scripture plainly states that the Savior destroyed the works of the devil—which is sin (I John 3:8).”

I leaned forward. “Where on earth is sin destroyed?”

The Seer paused, letting the weight of the question settle. “There is only one place on earth where sin is destroyed,” he said softly. “In the heart of God’s sons and daughters. When His offspring believe this astounding truth, and think on it, and fill their minds with His word about it, then they begin to put on the armor of God. This prepares them for the spiritual battle that will come. When our new heart breathes the Spirit into our mind, then the battle is fought, and the victory is won. In God’s mind, it has already happened!”     Kenneth Wayne Hancock, fulltime missionary, 1971-1985

Thank you my brother in Christ, I too remember when I had a similar experience.
I was a young airman stationed in Turkey when I met a small group of men traveling to Eastern Turkey in search of Noah’s Ark.
They visited the base I was stationed at and showed a slide presentation about the Ark of Noah and it’s importance in providing
positive proof of the Bible not being just a book of ” stories ” made up by man.
I got the opportunity to escort them around the base and have many conversations with them concerning the Bible.
    During this time, they
spoke of how that Christ came to deliver from sin and give a new heart to those who would follow
    his teaching.
I had been involved with various” churches”
trying to find the true meaning of salvation.
I was raised Catholic until age 16 and never really understood it.
I then went to an Assembly of God church and for about a year I tried to understand their idea
of salvation from sin but I just couldn’t grasp their ” system ” of worship.
After entering the Air Force, I got into the
” Charismatic ” movement and still couldn’t make sense of what they truly believed.
I would always ask this question to a pastor of each ” CHURCH ” ,
Is it possible to not sin,
    and be like Jesus?
I would always get the same answer, ” as long as you are in the flesh,
    you will be a sinner.
    So, I then would ask,
Then why would Jesus tell the woman caught in adultery, to” go and sin no more.”
They would always come away with some kind of answer that just didn’t make sense to me.

When I asked this same question to the leader of the group, he
    took me to the scripture
1st JOHN 3;9 > Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin,for his seed remaineth in him and he cannot sin because he is born of God.
    He then showed me
    where Christ said,
” Marvel not that I said unto you, Ye must be born again “.
At this point I began asking more questions that I had and he always pointed me to the scripture.
Something in me began to stir and a hunger for truth started to fill my heart.

They all had the same spirit about them and were in one accord, just as it is spoken of in ACTS.
They invited me to visit them back in the States whenever I got out of the Air Force, and that I was welcome to stay as long as I wanted to.

I had been using Hashish, taking speed,
smoking pot, and drinking alcohol all during my time in Turkey and later in the States after I returned.
I had gotten to a place
in my life that I really didn’t want to be, but it just seemed better than
the drab reality of the boring existence of what I saw around me.

Every where I looked I saw nothing that appealed to me.

I was getting tired of the same old routine of daily life, getting up going to work, coming home, not really appreciating my wife and two kids, thinking
of them as burdens to my wants and desires.
I knew I needed help, or else at some point I was going lose the very things that God had given me.

So, as the of the time of my enlistment drew near, I remembered those men that I met in
Turkey, and I asked my wife if she would mind us going to Texas to visit this group of people I met in Turkey.
She agreed that we should go and see if it could work out for us.

This was in December 75, I drove from Rapid City South Dakota to a small community outside of Palestine Texas.
We arrived there and were astonished at what we found.
It was like stepping back in time during the late 18 hundreds.

    The women wore long
dresses, the atmosphere was warm and friendly, the people
    we’re friendly and happy
    and greeted us with
    open arms and open hearts.
The community operated on the basis of the book of ACTS.
    There were very few
    ” modern conveniences”
only certain buildings had electricity , washouse, wellhouse,
    and the Office building.
The houses were heated by wood heaters,
wood cookstoves were used for cooking.
Now, I know how this looks, but to be truthful about it, I found this quite appealing and adventurous.
My wife was ( and still is ) a real trouper, she joined right in with this new experience.
I also began to get a grip of something more important than myself.
    It was through these
many inner changing experiences that God was able to cleans my mind, body soul, by teaching me dependence upon His
provision, rather than that of a corrupt system.
After a few months, my mind and body became clean from drug use.
I began to be able to think clearly and understand the scripture and put it into
    practice in my own life.

It was here where I learned about the true meaning of worshipping in Spirit and in Truth, and not just the formality of denominational ritualism.
Through the many teachings that exposed the false doctrines being spread throughout
” Churchianity ” I was able grasp what true salvation is. I was able to see that at that time, I was still a lost man and that I needed to be truly
delivered from sin by crucifixion of self, and be born again of God.
OOOHH, what a wonderful joy that is, to know that I am a child of God, born to be like Him, a brother of Yahshua, Peter, Paul, John, James, and all the other brothers and sisters in Christ.
The freedom of not being bound by sin, but free to walk in a newness of life.

Many experiences I had at that place and time still resonate deep in my heart.
The brethren I worked with and had fellowship with, the places that I
    was sent to ( Mexico),
    Kansas, South Carolina,
    Oklahoma and Georgia.
The variety of labor, and types of jobs were very
    influential to my later opportunities.
The skills and experience in working with different people gave me an insight into the importance of other people’s heart and needs.

I am truly thankful for all the experiences, good and not sogood, that I believe that the Lord led me to and through.

    Thank you my brother,
for the many experiences we shared when our families lived together, served together in Mexico and in Kansas, and the many times of fellowship in word and song.
YAHWEH bless you and keep feeding the sheep 🐑 🙏 🙌 HALLELUYAH

    • Brother John Boyer,

What a wonderful explanation of how our Father prepares us and smooths us out to be fit to be a part of His holy temple! Thanks for tapping into that reservoir of spiritual water. Wayne
