It’s All About the Fruit

God’s greatest desire is for us to spiritually grow to be able to bear “much fruit.” Christ calls this “the perfecting of the saints.” This is the work of His five offices (Eph. 4:14). He calls this bearing 100 fold fruit, as in the Parable of the Sower in Matthew 13. He calls the three states of growth other things: Children, young men, and fathers…fruit, more fruit, and much fruit… faith, hope and agape love…30, 60, and 100 fold fruit bearing (I John 2:13-14; John 15; I Cor. 13).

Christ has mapped out the way for us to get to these growths. You can find much more information on this in my books (free with free shipping…see end of this article).

The fruit God is talking about is not the number of souls you and I win to Christ. That is important, but at this stage, He is concerned with the spiritual fruit production that is happening in you and me, His elect. The fruit is about the growth of the Spirit of God within us.

The Timetable

God has a timetable for each of us, and He’s right on time. It is you and I that must seek His timetable for the events during “the time of the end.” And the nearest to God’s heart of all of the astounding happenings during this time is the nurture and growth of His sons and daughters. God is right on time to bring to pass His purpose.

And His purpose is to reproduce love, which is Himself. I will keep on sharing His purpose with you. It is the key revelation that opens up everything else in His “book of life.” It all starts there, and he’s using us. We must, at the beginning, receive His seed (the Word) and help it grow through our prayer and study. Because to Him, it’s all about the fruit. He loves us, yes, but He both coaxes and spurs us on to come to full fruit production—in other words, to be like Him.

Christ is sending disciples once again in our era to help make this happen. He uses and sets in his body apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. These are for the perfecting or the maturing of the saints. God’s offices are His gift to mankind. He gives gifts to men; the first one is the word of wisdom. The second one is the word of knowledge. Little spiritual children of God in Christ make the mistake of wanting to go out and heal all manner of sickness and work miracles without first learning the apostles’ doctrine. The early church continued in Christ’s teachings, and they became theirs. Reading the book of the Acts of the Apostles shows us the much fruit that they bore.

Many say that they want what they had. They walked in the knowledge of the apostles’ doctrine, and then they performed great works. They were right on time. Many well-meaning Christians do not realize that their timing is off. There is much to learn before our time to do wonders. It is like the best high school pitcher in the country believing that he can pitch at the Major League level right away. Not going to happen.

So, all of us must know His word. Really know it. And to do that one needs a teacher sent to explain His plan and purpose. Christ has already sent His offices out there to share the deeper things with His body. That’s His directive in His timeing for you and me (Eph. 4:11-15).

God puts special emphasis on the importance of learning the basics. It is the solid rock foundation. We cannot bask and sit still in the belief that we are a child of God and expect God to mystically help us grow. The child of God cannot keep circling the same old mountain of experiences used by God to call us out of the world many years ago. “Many are called, but few are chosen.

We are told to “make our calling and election sure.” The information in these articles and books will help us do that. Yesterday’s beautiful experiences will not give enough nourishment to us for the journey to the Promised Land that bears 100 fold “much fruit.” And it is all about the spiritual fruit. God has given us clues all the way through the scriptures concerning the growth cycle in nature as a type of the growth cycle of the Spirit within us.

What We Must Do to Bear Much Fruit

We must acquire the passion for his plan in order to grow to the 60 fold level, which is “more fruit.” There are many things to accomplish in preparation for that time when Christ will invite us to come up and sit with Him on his throne (the 100 fold fruit).

We need to “humble ourselves under his mighty hand,” for God “gives grace to the humble.” This grace, this unmerited favor, comes to us from Him in the form of new commandments. One is “Search the scriptures.” Another is “Study to show yourself approved unto God.” But if one does not obey them, the sap, the Spirit of truth, will cease to flow through that individual, and they will wither into a dry twig (John 15:6).

But those who do study God’s desires, his thoughts, his mind, his plan and purpose, will have obeyed his commandments. And those who obey his commandments prove to him several things. First, they will show that we love Christ. “If you love Me, keep my commandments” (John 14: 15). He is saying, If you love me, then you will study my words and My plan. Second, to him who keeps his commandments, Christ will love him. He does this by the Spirit of truth taking up residence in our hearts. He promises this: Christ’s Spirit will abide in him when he keeps the new commandments. “He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves Me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him” (John 14: 21). Finally, he promises us that if we use the measure of his Spirit within us to keep his new commandments, then he will abide in us (John 14: 23).

The abiding is when the Holy Spirit of truth remains and stays in us. He is anchored in our hearts in this growth. The Spirit shepherds us, guides us, and comforts us on the down days, and He laughs with us on the days of overcoming.

And when the Comforter, the Holy Spirit of truth, comes and makes his abode in us, then “He shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you,” Christ said. (John 14: 26). Until that time, we must “occupy till He comes.” This takes patience and endurance.      Kenneth Wayne Hancock

The Seed, Repentance, and the Cross

You are a page out of “the book of life.” God is the author of this book. He wrote it eons ago, long before your mom and dad brought you into the world. For God knew you before you were born. You were in His heart before the earth was ever formed and before the stars began to burn (Jer. 1:5).

This book of life is the record of the who, what, when, where, how and why of God’s plan and purpose. His purpose is to reproduce Himself. His plan to fulfill His purpose will be witnessed here on earth. When you walk by faith in Christ’s life, you are a part of the witness of the record in heaven. It bears repeating: The book of life is the record of what God has done/is doing/and will do to accomplish His purpose of reproducing Himself (Love).

It all begins with a seed. And “the seed is the word of God.” And the word of God is truth. When error is found in preachers’ mouths, the seed is blighted and will not reproduce.

But His seed is “the incorruptible seed.” It takes root in our hearts through the sacrifice of the Lamb, our Savior. Only it must be our own spiritual death with Christ. The seed must die before it springs to life in a heart. At the time of any harvest, the original seed brings forth and bears more seed just like the original.  

We members of Christ’s body today are living in the day of harvest, the time of the end. There is and will always be seed time and harvest. Seed time is seen in the book of Genesis, the book of beginnings. The “harvest is the end of the world,” as seen in the book of Revelation.

The word is made up from the words of the plan on how God will reproduce himself in us. In fact, the “book of life” is made up of the word, which gives us clues on how to proceed in God’s reproduction process.

The book of life mentioned in the scriptures is the plan on how he will use us to divinely love through us. This reproduces agape love, which is God. That is why you are a page out of the book of life.

The Cross Experience

Christ said, “Except a seed fall into the ground and die, it abides alone. But if it die, it brings forth much fruit.” Christ is that seed. “Christ is the seed, the word of God.” He is the Word made flesh.

God’s elect is the “good ground.” To get this growth process moving within us, His word, the seed, must germinate in our hearts. We surrender to him by submitting our old self to his spiritual growth process. Christ surrendered his body to death. God placed our sinful hearts on that sacrificial body, and when He died, our old sinful heart died with Him. When He was buried, our sinful self was buried. And when He was raised from the dead, we too were raised to walk in a newness of life.

This is the true cross experience. To lead someone to repentance is the first of the apostles’ doctrine. It is where you lead them to the mirror of their soul. And you tell them to look way past the simple facial skin tones and to peer into hearts. And ask them if they can see the dark place of their existence, the selfish and careless way they are. If they can and want to change, then you teach Romans 6 to them. It is the truth that will make them free. If they won’t look into that mirror, then they cannot receive the truth at that time. Maybe another day.

The Quiz

I gave you a one question quiz on August 5. It asks, “Can you explain in detail how one repents from sin?” It is about how to lead someone to true repentance, which is the first apostles’ doctrine. Christ’s death on the cross, His burial, and His resurrection is where we found our freedom from sin and sinning. It is here at the resurrection in our own hearts that the growth of the Seed in us will begin. And each seed bears its own kind.

When he perished, our old sinful selves died with him. When he was buried, our old selves were buried. And when he was resurrected—Hallelujah!—we “were raised to walk in a newness of life.” He that is dead is freed from sin. Free! But this freedom is only for those who know that they are in bondage to sin and know that they have a need to be freed. Those righteous in their own eyes will think that all of this is nonsense.

Repentance, Romans 6, and the Cross

Paul opens that chapter of his letter to the Romans with this thought: “Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?” In another translation we read, “Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ were baptized into his death?” Immersed into His death. Water baptism is only a symbol of the baptism into Christ’s death. Which preacher/pastor/priest/or prophet teaches these thoughts of the apostle Paul? They pontificate on most every passage except Romans 6.

This is where true repentance starts; it’s at and after the cross. Christ is not our substitute; he is our example. He laid it on the line through His death, and we need to die with him. And then through belief/faith in the operation of God, we also can walk in a newness of life (Col. 2:12).

This truth will make a huge difference in people’s lives. But you won’t find Romans 6 preached in many churches. Just go ask the pastors their take on it.  I wish they would teach this truth because it is the gateway to all truth. Unless we repent, we’ll “all likewise perish” and be forgotten in the dusty tombs of the earth. This is paramount in being saved from the sea of death, where nobody remembers your name.

The Father Does the Works through the Son—We Are the Body of the Son

Therefore, the Father will do those same works through us, the body of Christ. That’s the promise, whether we can grasp it or not at present. But I am getting ahead of the story. Let me back up to the beginning long before we little humans were scurrying about the planet.

God is the Word/the Logos/ the Plan to fulfill His own purpose (John 1:1). He desires to reproduce Himself in us. That is His purpose. How He will do this is written in His own words in the Holy Bible. God also wrote His whole plan out in the life and death and resurrected life of one man. They call Him Jesus in the English speaking world. But His Hebrew name is Yahshua. His name in the Hebrew means “Yah is the Savior” or “Yah Saves.” His name is the same as the patriarch Joshua.

The Father’s purpose is to reproduce agape love, which is Himself. “God is love” (I John 4:8). God is also Spirit, the Spirit of Love (John 4:24). He will reproduce Love in and through you and me, if we follow on. He does this by showing us how to do what He has done and how to love.  When we do what He does, then we grow spiritually. If we continue in Him, we will grow to full maturity as his sons and daughters. That is if we humble ourselves and pray and study His word and seek His face while He may be found.

The Word is the seed (Matt. 13:19). And “each seed bears its own kind.” Since we now are born of the “incorruptible seed, the word of God,” we will be like Him at the time of the harvest, which is “end of the world.” We will be like him after we do the things he does. Again, the question arises: What did the Father do? And what does the Father do now? For He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So, what are his works?

As we have learned, Christ commands us to believe that the Father is in Him. We are to believe Christ that it was Yahweh, the invisible Spirit Father that inhabited the Son of God. Christ said that it was the Father inside of him that did “the works.” According to Christ’s own words, when you see a miracle done by the Son, it is really the Father inside of Him that is doing the works.

Works—What Are They?

“Works” is translated from the Greek word # 2041 ergon, meaning “an act, deed, thing done.” So, what were the things that Christ did? John the Baptist inquired about these works, sending two of his disciples to ask Christ, “Are you he that should come, or do we look for another?”

Christ said, “Show John what you see and hear: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached unto them” (John 7:22).

Christ said that the miraculous works that he did were “the works of my Father.” Believe the works “that you may know, and believe, that the Father is in Me (the Son of God) and I in the Father.” No mortal man can do miracles. So, it must be the Father, the Spirit, in the Son of God that is doing the works (John 10:38).

The Promise of Power for Us

When the time comes that the Father grows to a fullness within us, then the Father will do miracles through us. As people witness and see these miracles, they will know and believe that the Father is in the Son. And since we believers are the Son’s body, they will know that it is the Father dwelling in us, also.

This takes us to John 14:10-11. Christ said, “The Father that dwells in me, He does the works/miracles.” Then here comes the blockbuster promise that boggles our minds. Christ says, “He that believes on me, the works [the miracles] that I do shall he do also…” (John 14:12). He that believes that the Spirit that was in Christ was the Father, that person shall do the same miracles that Christ has done, “and greater works…” We will do the same miracles because it is the same Father in us that is in Christ. Wow!

There are two prerequisites before we receive this power. First we must believe that the Father is in the Son. This takes getting rid of old leaven concepts about God that muddy the water.  Second, we must ask Him for the power. “And whatsoever you shall ask in My name, that will I do” (v. 13). What should we be asking for here? We are to ask our Father for His power to do the works, the miracles that He just promised in verse 12. But we must “ask in [His] name.” Before we can ask in His name, we must know His Hebrew name and know what it means. [Much more on this in my book The Eleventh Commandment, pp. 42-44; 70-99. These miraculous exploits are written in the book of life, a book about the Spirit in us. If we are one of His chosen/elect, our destiny is written out. He has already prepared someone in need, someone who needs a miracle, someone who needs healing of cancer or palsy or some other incurable disease. The Father has divine appointments for us to cross paths with a terminally ill person. The appointment to heal them is set. He does all things well, our Father, as He flows His healing power through us to the sick. These miracles [the works] are already written down in the book of life. The miracles are already set up by the Father. It will happen after we leave our 30 fold childhood ways.

A Story about a Miracle

Let me tell you a story about the works of the Father. Christ and his disciples passed by a blind man. The disciples asked Him, “Why is this man blind? Is it because of his own sin or his parents’ sin?”

Christ said that neither he nor his parents were to blame. “But this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.” And then Christ healed him and said, “As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent Me.” He said that we must do the Father’s work. That’s us, too (John 9:1-4 NIV).

So, as we grow into the 60 fold realm and beyond, we will ask Him for miracles, knowing that it will be the Father doing them in and through us. It is all Christ, for Him and to Him. Humility will lead our way. We can humble ourselves under His mighty hand, or He for our good will chasten us and correct us. “For whom the Lord loves He chastens and scourges every son whom He receives” (Heb. 12:6).

When the Son of God and the members of his body do a miracle, it glorifies the Father, for it is the Father doing the miracle through them. If the self is still there, then God won’t be. We are talking about those pre-destinated by God to “be conformed to the image of his Son” (Romans 8: 28-30).

Christ prayed for us who are to be called and glorified. Speaking of us he prayed “for them also which shall believe on Me through their (his disciples) word; that they may be one, as thou Father are in me and I in thee, that they may be one in us, and the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one (John 17). He is so merciful to share His throne with us. But before He “hands us the keys to the Kingdom,” He will test us.

God Is Doing a New Thing, and It Starts with a New Heart after Repentance

If doubtful thoughts are arising in your mind, like, “I don’t know if I can believe the teachings on this website because I have not heard it before.” If that is happening to you, don’t jump ship. Stay in the ship. Take some time to sail away from the bustling crowd and the yap, yap, yapping of the different birds of religion who flap their Raven wings, fluttering, garbling His word into imaginations that sour the mind. Stop. Rest in Him.

Take in the new things that you are hearing here. You feel that they are right. You would not even be reading this far if you did not believe that. So, just take it easy. The concept of new things is all the way through the scriptures. God said, “I will do a new thing in the earth.” But you will not want the new wine because you will say that the old wine is better. No, it is not. God is doing a new thing with new concepts. Oh, it is in the written word. But these new concepts are sometimes directly opposed to the organized churches. If it is not happening, then someone is stuck in the mud of old churchianity. Very few plants can grow in mud. So, He says to us, “Come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord.”

When the “Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth.” Make no mistake about it. If you are not being led into more truth, one of two things is happening in your life. Either you already have all truth or the Holy Spirit is not working with you at this stage of your life.

We must believe that He has teachers. He has apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. They are humble and not exalted. They are not egoistic narcissists clamoring for money. They are part of the mighty hand of God, and they are very, very rare in the earth. Please listen to me. Very rare. You will not find them on every church corner. God is inviting us to turn the droning music of our existence off. Meditate upon His word. If you do not get it, go back and reread it. Study it. He’s the one that is giving us this new truth. It will make more sense if you know His purpose is. For all truth after the knowledge of His purpose explains how He will fulfill His purpose.

The problem with many modern Christians is that they think that they must be the star of the show. They think that they’ve already arrived.  But they don’t realize that God has a plan. They don’t understand that there is much knowledge that must be received from his offices. We are told in the scriptures to “humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God that in due time he may exalt us.” Growing to full maturity is part of this humbling process.

Quiz Time

If you would like to know where you’re at in spiritual growth, answer this question: Can you explain in detail how one repents from sin. Repentance is the first of the apostles’ doctrines. Life or death stuff. Remember? “Except you repent you shall all likewise perish.” That’s our Savior talking. If you want to be like Peter, James, John and Paul, then you must have this knowledge in your heart. It must be a river of living water. But first comes the knowledge of the cross. There, I gave you a hint. The offices of God will know this answer. So will the prophets and the evangelists and the pastors and the teachers. That’s your test. And it is any preacher’s test. Go ahead. Ask them if they can explain repentance to you.  

Try to answer the question with a closed book. Write down what you know  about repentance. Then go back to Romans 6 and check your work. And then study it until it’s in your heart. Then share it with others. That is how the word is made flesh and dwells among us. You then will become the word. This is the basic teaching of how to repent, which was the very first word that Christ spoke when he went out to preach in the villages: “Repent and believe the gospel.” When you get this–and there is only one place to get it–you will be sharing with me the wonderful deliverance He has done in your life! And so God tells his fivefold ministry offices: I am going to use you to perfect the Saints, to teach them maturity, to show them the way to become like Me. They will not come to full maturity without you, My teachers. My little children will not accomplish perfection without My fivefold ministry offices (Eph. 4:11-15).

There are many preachers and teachers who do not have the message. If you see somebody walking around, crowing, yearning to be a great man of God, he doesn’t have it. Take money out of the equation and the landscape clears up fast. Christ would not even be recognized if he were to walk into a church service today. He would have “no form nor comeliness that they would desire Him.” He wouldn’t be recognized. His teachings would not be believed. Most are not going to listen to him. In fact, that is what happened to the prophet Ezequiel. Yahweh appeared to him magnificently, and told him, “I want you to go to my people. But they are stiff necked, and they will not hear you. They will not listen to you because they will not listen to Me.” All part of the plan. But first we need to know His doctrines–backwards and forward–if we want to get a place on the front row so we can see His face up close.

“O, Father, Where Art Thou?”

“O, Father, where art thou?” We have all wondered it, especially during trials of our faith. Where is our spiritual Father—really? He is not where we just think He may be. He is not where the preacher thinks He is. He is not where we hope he is. He is not where we imagine Him to be. He is not where we feel He is. No. No. The answer to this question does not come from a feeling. Feelings will let you down. So, how can we really know where He is?

“O, Father, where art Thou?” We will find the answer to this question in God’s words that have been written down. He is where He said he is. The word says that the Father is in His Son. Christ said that the Father is inside the Son. In fact, Christ commands us, “Believe me that the Father is in Me.”

The Son of God is the head of the spiritual body of Christ, which is the church. We are “members in particular” of His body. He is the head; we are His body. Because the Father dwells inside the Son, and because we are a part of the Son’s spiritual body, the Father dwells inside of us, too. That is if we have received His Spirit within our hearts.

“O, Father, where art thou?” The Father lives within the hearts of His children. We need only look in the mirror to see the Father’s dwelling place. He is in His temple—you and me. I wrote a song right after my conversion to Christ some 50 years ago called “He’s Living Here.” He is living here, deep inside, and it’s so clear this love I can’t hide because with Christ my old man is crucified…

His sweet presence can only be enjoyed when the Spirit of Truth is in our hearts. For the Father is the Spirit of Truth. If we have error within us, we are blocked from the Father. Because He is Truth. 

How Our Father Communicates with and through Us

Hearing from our Father is through words that the Spirit of Truth speaks. These words are from the Word. The words from the Word comes to us through thoughts. Our thoughts come from primarily two sources–our Father and the adversary Satan, who oversees dispensing evil thoughts and confusion into the earth (see Job 1). Remember Satan’s lies in the garden of Eden? “Has God really said that? God didn’t mean that. God just does not want you to know the best things.”

Satan is the accuser of the brethren. He accuses through negative thoughts running through our minds. Consequently, not every thought is from God. How can we discern? How can we tell which thought is from God and which is from Satan? For the answer, we must go back to the written word of God, for His thoughts will coincide with His written word. So, let’s not be waiting for audible words spoken to us by God in order to receive His words to us. We waste time doing that. No doubt that is what the five foolish virgins were doing. They did not study the written word, and they wound up with no oil in their lamps (Matt. 25:1-13). Go to the written word; these are His thoughts which outlines His plan and purpose. By studying His written words, we will have a library of His thoughts that the Spirit within can draw from. But do not go down every rabbit hole that Churchianity provides. They are in error; I didn’t say it; He did.

Christ said, The words I speak, they are spirit, and they are life. Our thoughts, no matter how lovely they sound to us, must agree with the written word of God. Dreams and visions do not always come from God. That is why we must “study to show ourselves approved unto God.” That is why we are told to “bring into captivity every thought unto obedience to Christ.” It helps to have the Teacher, the Spirit of Truth, teach us.

“O, Father, where art Thou?” His word says that the Father, the Holy Spirit, resides in the Son, of which Christ is the head, and we are the Son’s body. The Father dwells in us if we have indeed His Spirit residing within our hearts. But the Spirit will not dwell in unclean temples filled with error. It will not happen. Why? Because His word says so.

Where is the Father, the invisible Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit? I leave you with this quote. We will let the Spirit in Paul answer: “There is one body, and one Spirit…one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all and in you all” (Eph. 4:4-6). Knowing God Is Knowing His Word–Because He Is the Word

Because God is the Word, we cannot know Him if we do not know His words about Him being the Word. We find these words in the written word of God. The “word” found in John 1 is “Logos” in the Greek. It means “the plan,” basically. Everything in God’s far reaching excellent Plan is encapsulated in the word “word.”

God makes a big thing out of his word. “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God.” His word is our life. Many scriptures come to mind about the word. “In the beginning was the word.” Since Christ is the beginning [“I am the beginning and the end”].  In Him was the word/logos or the plan. Since Christ is the beginning, then in Him was the word/logos/plan. Christ is the “Word made flesh” that dwelt among us.

And He was this word/logos/plan. And the Word was God. And this word, this explanation of God’s purpose and plan was at first passed on from generation to generation orally. Then his prophets wrote it down, and the word became the scriptures of truth. And the scriptures were passed down by faithful men, preserved for us today in the Bible.

This procurement by man of God’s word was done through men and women being the word. In other words, their lives became the word as their actions and interactions with God became the word, made flesh in a way.

Moreover, God’s chosen people’s history, the history of the Adamites, became our Bible. Comprehending their story, capped by the New Testament story of Yahshua the Christ the Anointed One and his apostles, is the journey we have set out on.

Thy Word Is Truth

His word is the truth about what is happening in heaven and earth. Therefore, it becomes the standard that we must go to, to settle all controversies. There will be times when we have doubts as to the veracity of certain doctrinal assumptions. He said that we are to prove all things to see if they be good or bad.

A grave mistake happens here on our walk into more growth in Him. It is believing that every thought that pops into our head is of God. We must know that God has allowed Satan to communicate with the inhabitants of the earth. He will speak to us in the thoughts of our mind. God does the same thing. The mistake is not discerning properly which voice is which.

Grave errors occur to young Christians for one reason. Christ said it. “You do err. You neither know the scriptures nor the power of God.” Knowing the written word of God  gives more God-thoughts to combat the negative thoughts.

There is much to prove out one way or the other whether thoughts come from God or of the devil. People will come up with suppositions, dreams, and imaginations. They become false doctrines that are clung to. But they must be in one accord with the standard, the word of God. If it does not agree with the written word, then we must throw it out.

His word is a big thing because He is a big thing, for He is the Word. The Word is spirit, and you must “worship God in spirit and in truth…” Without the truth, there is no real worship. So, word = spirit = God = truth. We must know the scriptures of truth in order to know God. For He is the Word of truth.

Down the Rabbit Hole to Know Christ–Being an Overcomer in Laodicea

How far down the rabbit hole are you willing to go to know your God and Savior? I mean to really know Him. Not just know about Him, but to know Him. Knowing Him is knowing what He knows. It is knowing Him that is from the beginning. It is not like knowing your best friend. Friends can betray you. He cannot. I am talking about you knowing Him so well that He invites you to sit beside Him on His throne, a viceroy and confidant of the King.

How can this grandiose vision ever be? Only those who overcome all things will know Him this intimately. And those overcomers that Christ speaks of will do what it takes. They will squeeze down that rabbit hole and go deeper in order to find what is necessary “to know Him and the power of His resurrection.” The ones that He has chosen are His elect; that is what “elect” means.

Am I one of the chosen ones, someone will ask. If you are, there will be an unquenchable thirst for the water from heaven. You will “dig deep and lay the foundation on a rock” (Luke 6:47-49). You will seek the truth, and you will find it, and you will study it out with a passion.

Only they will get a dinner invitation to dine with the Creator Himself. To know Him as He really is, to sit at His feet after dinner and ask Him a question that you have always wanted to know about life in His universe. That is possible for you and me. But we must overcome some things before that takes place. [It is a good sign if you are still reading.]

The overcomers. But overcome what? You have to go down a little deeper for this to crystalize. Going deeper is to sell all. To sell out. To count everything that you could gain in this world as “dung” that “you may win Christ.” The apostle Paul knew that his life prior to the happening on the road to Damascus amounted to nothing. Our old lives are a mere chasing the wind, a blink of vanity with an expiration date that looms larger the older we grow. All of our earthly works are but dust and rubble.

But we are destined for much greater things in Him. We are talking about a chance of being anointed. Who got anointed back in the biblical days? Kings. And the spiritual anointing oil that is used is the truth, the truth of who the Father/Son is.

Christ Tests Us

I am still talking about overcoming. Before Christ anoints us, He tests us to see if we are up for the task of ruling this earth. He mentions this overcoming in Rev. 3:21. “To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in His throne.” There it is. If you want to go all the way with Him, you have got to study out what to overcome. Don’t pass over what the Spirit is sharing with us now. This knowledge is rare; we won’t get it by passively listening to some words about Christ in a church house somewhere. If we want to “reign with Him,” we have got to get serious about His words. Stay with Him, and He will show us what to overcome.

Overcome what exactly? We must go back seven verses for the answer. This message is to those in Laodicea, which means “laity deceived.” This is our church age. Wholesale deception pervades the airwaves here in the 21st Century.

Christ is speaking to us Christians today. “I know your works” (v. 15). Your works. You are doing your works, not My works, which are done by My Spirit of truth. What you are doing in your worship of Me is lukewarm; it is neither cold nor hot. Why? Because it is your works, full of man’s wisdom. Your works are based in man’s interpretations and imaginations about how they think that I want to be worshipped. To worship Me, it must be in Spirit and in truth. No falsehoods present.  

He says that self-proclaimed followers of Christ are lukewarm, and He will spue them out of His mouth” (v. 16). If they do not take to heart this message of His, then they will be rejected by Him for higher service and the closer walk with Him that He desires for them. They won’t make it to the throne.

And why will He spue them out? “Because you say, I am rich and increased with goods, and have need of nothing” (v. 17). He is talking about the spiritual here, not the material. We see the spiritual in the “lukewarm” statement. They are neither hot nor cold. He was not talking about the weather.

So in that same flow, Christ exposes the things that modern church goers do. They think that they are rich. They say that they already have the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit and that they already are born again and filled with the Spirit. They still sin, mind you, but they don’t want anything “new,” or “different.” Therefore, they say that they “have need of nothing.” They think that they already have all they need. They are unteachable. Most all denominations believe that they have the truth–nobody else. Question: Do we honestly think that we are baptized and filled with the Spirit of truth when we have so many erroneous errors guiding our worship. [I know that this is a sharp sword for some, but hang in there. He chastens those He loves.]

Christ exposes this prideful state of the church in our day. He says, “You don’t know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked” (v. 17). Christ speaks this with mercy, for He outlines next just how to repent of this lukewarmness and pride. He counsels us to buy of Him gold tried in the fire, white raiment, and eyesalve that we may see. Doing these three things is how we overcome.

Christ says this: “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent” (v. 19). When we buy something, it costs us something. We are to buy gold, white raiment, and eyesalve. To buy these three spiritual things, we must sell our old Christian traditions, our old conceptions of the Godhead, and the doctrines of men. These old leaven concepts are what we must overcome.

He is at the door of our hearts; He is knocking. He wants us to know Him. If we open the door, He will come in and have dinner with us (v. 20).

And here’s the next step. “To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne (v. 21). This is His promise to the overcomers. What would prohibit someone of pursuing this promise? Unbelief.

On Spiritually Struggling with Family and Friends

You may be spiritually hurting right now. You are seeing deeper into God’s plan and purpose and you love it, and you try to share it with your family and friends, and try as you might, you just can’t seem to win your family members over. It’s a struggle as they seem to thwart you at every turn. It’s bad enough that the world, in general, is resistant to the truth. But your own family, too? 

Many of you are sparring with spirits in your own house.  They withstand you and plague you with worldly thoughts, tempting you away from thoughts of Christ and His righteousness and ways.

“Think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you” (I Pet. 4:12-14) Rather, rejoice. You are “partakers of Christ’s sufferings.”

Our sufferings are His because we are His. He knows that we are going through anguish with the unbelievers in our family. That wayward son or daughter, that wife or husband who resents us when we speak of Him, that uncle or aunt, or cousin or friend—all these He has in our world for us to overcome. Don’t we know—we’ve all read it I am sure—that a “man’s foes shall be they of his own household”?

He is come to send a sword onto the earth, not peace. This war is raging in our own families. Christ is “come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother (Matt. 10: 34-36).

He Is Sending A Sword

Christ says that He sends a sword, which symbolizes war, conflict, confusion, desperation, fear, dread, frustration, tears (v. 34). And then the very next breath He sets a spiritual war in the hearts and minds of us and our family and loved ones. The fight and struggle that we must endure is on the battlefield of our homes. Period. In this battle, the sword He brings will slice away our selfishness.

The apostles warn us of the sword that Christ will send to us. First, we are not fighting or wrestling with the flesh and blood of our family members. We are battling spirits. We are pitted against powers that God has ordained for us to overcome—for our spiritual growth. God has created that family member or friend to come against you. Remember, His purpose is to reproduce Himself in us. He is Love. He loves your family member who is your enemy. And we should, too. 

So He commands us to “love your enemies. Bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you” (Matt. 5:44). Our enemies are not in Washington, D.C. or Moscow.  Our enemies are those close to us dwelling in our house or close by.  When their actions and words break your heart, this is the golden opportunity to forgive them. The struggle is not with them. It is in ourselves. Will we love and forgive them, thereby expressing agape love?  Or will we remain the victim of a selfish hardness? 

Someone is saying “How can I do this? How do I love my family member who has tried to shipwreck my faith so many times? How do I do it?

You ask Yahweh, the God that King David served. Study the story of how his son, Absalom, betrayed him in an attempt to steal the crown from David’s head. Study David’s response, and you will understand why he was so loved by Yahweh and why David was considered “a man after God’s own heart.” Read of David’s heartbreak and then his love for Yahweh expressed through his heart and lips (II Samuel 19).

The poet and prophet wrote of this trial in Psalm 41:9. Though heartbreaking for David, the betrayal of his son Absalom helped develop God’s Spirit in David’s heart.  Your trials brought to you to overcome by your Father, will do the same, as we call on God with a humbled heart.

Knowledge is the first thing–knowing who the real enemy is. Then it is loving and forgiving them with Christ’s Spirit emanating out of your heart. This is part of fulfilling God’s purpose of reproducing Himself in us. Agape love is growing, and this gives us the victory.
