Love is a fountain of forgiveness.
It is fed by a spring called Mercy.
From that soothing source,
We drink its life-giving strength,
From which flows the healing waters.
Of course, that fountain of loving forgiveness comes out of the very heart of God. For He is love. Through His mercy He forgave all of our sins, all of the dark things that we did in our old life. He sacrificed His life in His Son, proving the greatest love. Which is laying down your life for another.
The Greek word translated “forgiven” means “to let go, to set free.” His forgiveness sets us free of the penalty for sinning. He lets it all go, all the guilt that we carried for the selfishness and carelessness we showed to others. He let it go, so that now we can be set free in our hearts, when we let it go. That is the forgiveness of sin.
If we can believe that about our inner man being forgiven, then He has for us another “letting go.” It is the “letting go” of sickness. Christ saw no difference between the two. He told a paralyzed man that his sins were forgiven. Then the scribes accused Christ of being a blasphemer.
Christ said to them, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins—then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” And then the man got up and went to his house.
It is the same Word for both maladies, the spiritual and the physical. The fountain’s living waters cure both the spirit and the body. Love is a fountain of forgiveness.
