He Shall Be Called the Everlasting Father

Christ has many titles and names: A few of them are the Savior, the King of kings, the Lamb of God, the Son of God, and the Everlasting…Father? The Son shall be called the Father? How can that be? Let’s all hold on a minute and let the Spirit explain.

Every December hundreds of millions of Christians all over the world quote from Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit through him is announcing the coming of the Christ child: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given…” The “child” here is universally believed to be the Son of God. Most stop there. They see that it is talking about the babe in the manger. But some go on reading: “…and the government shall be upon his shoulder…” Here they see a grown-up Christ becoming the King of the kingdom of God during the Thousand Year Reign of Christ! All but a few will stop there. But the overcomers will read on to the end of the verse. Speaking of Christ: “…And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6).

In one verse, the Spirit shows us a vision of the incarnation of Christ, from His birth to His death. We see His Resurrection and His ascension to the throne. And finally, we are given this nugget of golden knowledge: The Son’s “name shall be called the “Everlasting Father.” That bit of information is revelatory truth hidden in a mystery.  

And it is here that a chosen few will scratch their heads and ponder what they have just read.

How can the Son of God be the Everlasting Father?

Those who dig deep will immediately desire to know other scriptures that back this up. Christ’s own words bring up this idea of oneness. “I and my Father are one” (John 10:30; 17:11). Philip asked to be shown the Father. Christ replied, “He that has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). “He that sees me sees him that sent Me” (John 12:45). And we know the Father Yahweh sent the Son. Christ’s most fervent prayer is “that they [His followers] may be one, as we are…That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me and I in thee, that they also may be one in us (John 17:11, 21-22). Christ is praying for us, that we can become one with Him and the Father that dwells inside of the Son.

To know Christ as the Everlasting Father is to really know Him. And it is the key to the second part of this verse: “That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection…” (Phil. 3:10). Knowing Him through the lens of Oneness opens the door into becoming responsible stewards of His resurrection power. In other words, believing in Oneness comes before channeling the power of God.  

We are talking about the power that Christ and His apostles wielded—the power to speak words that transforms a drug addict into a disciple. It is the power to heal people trapped in the prison of cerebral palsy, to regenerate their nervous system with the resurrection power of God. It is the power to raise the dead. He promised us this: “Whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, He will give it to you…Ask and you shall receive” (John 16:24). It is a wide-open promise with no limitations for those in that level of spiritual growth.

Solving the Mystery

So how do we become one with the Father and the Son? How do we obtain the same understanding that Christ had about oneness? It starts with His word about the Father. First, the Father is the invisible Spirit Yahweh. The Spirit through the apostle Paul said that the Son of God “is the image of the invisible God” (Col. 1:l 5). The Son is the vessel that contains the Father. The Son is now comprised of several beings, not just “the man from Galilee.” Christ is the head, and we Christians are part of His body, His spiritual body. The Son is the body, the church; the fulness of Him that fills all in all…” (Eph. 1:23).

It was the Father that did the miracles through the Son. The Son said as much. “The Father that dwells in Me, He does the works” (Jn 14:19). The “works” are the miracles that the Son performed.

So then, when we see the Son, we are seeing both the Son and the Father, who is an invisible Spirit dwelling in the Son. And through God’s great grace and mercy, He has delivered on His promise to include us in being a part of the corporate body of the Son, the true church (ecclesia). This all happens by believing what He believes about each of us. It is all by faith. It is all about believing the tenets He has given to us about the oneness of the Godhead. When we believe His word on this, then His promises are activated, enabling us to walk through the door into “the power of the resurrection.”

That is how important these words are. For those who reject all of this will fade back to their theory-cluttered lives. And they will be like the archaeologist who stands on a Honduran jungle mound, dismissing it as an ancient dump site. The Light of Love from Above–Ch. 7 of The Royal Destiny of God’s Elect

7  The Light of Love from Above 

Light is that ephemeral miracle we take for granted. It physically exposes the dark corners of our rooms, and it spiritually makes known the hidden recesses of our hearts and minds. 

Light is that essence of the divine that heals our blindness and ends our vain groping to make meaning of the hopeless darkness of our carnal earthly estate. 

Of course, God is Light, and He is Love which casts out the fear of remaining in the dungeon of despair. God’s Son is the way out of that calamitous corridor of personal corruption. Through Christ’s Spirit we no longer inflict collateral damage on all who cross our path. We now shine the light of love. 

We who are called and chosen by the Redeemer to escape this dungeon of darkness have laid hold of His outstretched hand. He has snatched us up out of that selfish march to death that we were on and has shined the truth of His words into our hearts. His thoughts are like the early morning rays of the sun that sharpens our perception of just what our world can be. Instead of the coarse commonality of our selfish old nature, our Creator has now enlightened our eyes as to His desire to use us in reproducing Himself. Astounding as it may seem, He is now shedding more light onto His plan to “bring many sons (and daughters) unto glory.” And this glory is the unearned privilege to sit with Christ on His throne when He returns to set up on earth the 1,000 year reign of His kingdom. He is, after all, the “King of kings” (Rom. 8: 18-19, 28-31; Rev. 3: 20-21; I Tim. 6: 15). 

In a word, His purpose is to reproduce, like a seed, His Love in us. Since God is Love, when we love others with His Spirit of Love, God is reproducing Himself (I John 4: 8-12). 

God has a plan to make all this happen. He has written it down on how to walk in the light of His love. He has left us instructions as to how people will act when God’s Spirit of love is leading them. 

These instructions are called “the law.” The “testimony” is the witness of one who through God’s Spirit follows the instructions as to what Love looks like walking around in a human being. 

Love–agape love–the love from above–this love is God. And this love, when poured into the heart and mind of man, fulfills all the descriptions of what love is. We look to our example, the Son of God. He is Love incarnate. And the Love that He is, now resides in His children’s hearts. And we are growing in His plan and purpose as He grows in us. 

This love from above follows the instructions of the law as to our actions. In a nutshell, the ten commandment law requires that we love our neighbor as ourselves. Therefore, the Spirit of Love within us fulfills the law (Rom. 13:9-10). God’s Love is the Light that now shines into and through our hearts and minds to others. 

How Love Fulfills the Law 

Life is all about love. The poets and prophets and songwriters got that much right. But it is the higher love, the agape divine love that we should concern ourselves with as His sons and daughters. 

Love fulfills the whole law when we do the greatest love. When we lay down our old earthly lives with its selfish sins and pursuits, and take up our new life in Christ and His Spirit in us—then the Love that is from above comes down into us in the form of a new heart. This agape love fulfills the Ten Commandment Law and all the Mosaic Law of the Old Covenant. 

For Love is God, and God is this agape love. And He does fulfill His own law. No amount of working for this will be effectual. This love does not come by being a regular church goer, tither, or prayer warrior. No amount of good works, charity donations, or pious acts will bring Love down into us. Only self-sacrifice on the cross and our own death, burial, and resurrection with Christ will do it.  

Doing the greatest love, which is laying down our lives for others just like Christ did, is the only sacrifice God will accept. Letting our old lives die on the cross is the only avenue open to us in our original seat in the mire. It is only this that will bring His nature of Love down, supplanting the old sinful nature. Only laying down our lives will fulfill His purpose of reproducing Himself. When we do this and continue to walk in His Spirit, Love has been multiplied and reproduced.   

It all starts with Love, and it all ends with Love. God is Love and He is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega. Love is the beginning and the end of all things. 

How do we, the church of God, fit into all this? We are His body; we are the members of Love’s body, “the fullness of Him that fills all in all” (Eph. 1: 23). God sees us as the vessels that will contain Himself. He created us for this purpose—to house Himself and the mercy and Love that He is. Bold statement: Without us God could not express the fullness of Himself. 

In the end, God will fill us with His Love and mercy. And He will use us to do it. His essence of love will spread throughout every crevice of His universe through the presence of His ambassadors, His princes and princesses, His family and friends. Children of God think that they are objects of His love. The mature know that they are channels of His love.

Son of Man, Son of God–What Is the Difference?

“Who is this Son of man?” the people asked Christ.

His response was curious at first glance.  “Walk while you have the light…Believe in the light that you may be the children of light.” He is saying that the Son of man is the Light, and if we believe in Him, then we can be the children of light (John 12: 34-36).

We understand the phrase “Son of God,” for we see Him walking on water, raising the dead, healing the sick, and doing the mighty works of God. God’s Son will do what the Father does. But “Son of man”? Does it mean the same as “Son of God”? Why both?

A son is by definition the male offspring of human beings. But we are not talking about just any son here; we are talking about the glorified offspring of mankind—not just a male offspring of natural sinful man, but a glorified male offspring. It is a man who has traveled and matured completely in the life cycle God has made for man.

“Man is the glory of God.” That is the purpose. Man is to be converted from his fallen state and restored to the original calling God has for him—to be the temple that holds the shekinah glory of God. This entity—God-fully-manifested-in-human-form—is the Son, the Son of God, yes, for He is God’s offspring, but He also is the Son of man, for He sprang forth from just being a mortal man to being an immortal man—full of the presence of the Spirit of his Creator, living in an immortal spiritual body by the resurrection of the dead (I Cor. 15: 42-49; II Cor. 5: 1-5).

And this is where He wants to take us! To be just like Him, the Son of man, the Light. That is the true calling and life cycle of a few chosen ones called “the elect” by the prophets and apostles. They are the ones who will journey at God’s bequest to make the full circle from His throne room to the destitution of earthly flesh, and back to the throne, where they will sit with Him, restored to their rightful seat with Him. “Thou turnest man to destruction and then say, Return.”

These elect will make the round trip back to Him. They will be accounted worthy to walk with Him in white and will be of one mind and one accord with their Savior and Maker. In fact, they will be accounted by God as actually a part of His body; they are His body. They are a part of the “Son” and will be called as well, the “Son of man,” for they will have made the journey of maturity, growing up into Him—God in human form.

This is what His eternal purpose is all about. This is the vision for the wrap up, for the end time. They are God’s battle axe, the apple of His eye. They are His crowning creation, the “kings” with a little “k” of the phrase, “The King of kings.” They are the ones, and yet, they are one with Him. For there is one God and one body of that great Deity, and they are the limbs, and the Pattern Son, Yahshua of Nazareth, is the head of that great body, called by His prophets, God’s temple.

That is the Son of man. He is the Light, and they are the “light” as well after they receive and retain the fullness of His Spirit in their spiritual bodies. The sons and daughters of man will comprise the spiritual body of the Son of man. They are one and yet many—many men and women who have grown up into spiritual maturity and have left their human fleshly prison for the greater dimension of the kingdom of heaven. These elect will know what I’m talking about, for it will quicken in their spirit.

The Elect–The Key to Understanding Christian Growth

These words I write, though now published and available to all everywhere, are really intended for a certain few.  Those are the few who are able to perceive the things of the Spirit, for not all can.  The Master spoke “to him that has ears to hear, let him hear…”  He was speaking to those who had ears that could understand His sayings.  For it is given to them “to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them–the vast majority of mankind–it is not given at this time (Matt. 13: 11).

The Savior talks a lot about “the few.”  He said that “few” would find life (Matt. 7: 14), that the laborers for the final harvest are “few” (Matt. 9; 37), and that “many are called, but few are chosen” (Matt. 22: 14).  Interestingly, here we have both the “few” and “the chosen” in the same passage.

These few that He speaks of are the elect, His chosen ones.  Some take offense at Christ’s words.  They don’t like it when He says, You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and ordained you that you should go and bear much fruit (John 15: 16).  The chosen ones will bear “much fruit.”  The scriptures speak of Christians bearing three amounts of fruit: fruit, more fruit, and much fruit (John 15: 1-8).

To the worldly ear, trained up in the all-inclusive ways of our post-modern politically correct society, the Master’s message about His elect falls like another tired stone in the unenlightened pond of prejudice.  But God says that “my ways are not your ways.”

God has revealed His way in the “scriptures of truth,” and a few will without pre-conceived ideas and pre-judged beliefs about what the Bible actually says in black and white–those few will walk with Him in white during the last go round, the time of the end.

So these words are about those few, in all probability many who are reading this now.

Though many millions are destined to believe on Him and bear fruit in these last days, only a few thousand will  be chosen by God to bear “much fruit.”  These are the 100 fold fruit-bearing elect.  The elect are chosen by God for a special calling: “to not taste of death till they see the Son of man coming in His kingdom” (Matt. 16: 28; Mark 9: 1; Luke 9: 27).

The elect’s calling is not only unintelligible to the masses; they just will not believe that it is possible.  They will not be able to believe it because they have swallowed the insidious error-filled teachings of the false prophets and false teachers “who have brought in damnable heresies” that have subverted the faith of the many (II Pet. 2: 1).

But the elect will be led by the Spirit into all truth (John 16: 13).  And a big part of the truth is this concept of the elect, who are forming His company of many sons and daughters to be manifested in these latter days.

The key that unlocks this mystery, thus enabling us to believe these truths about His chosen ones, is understanding the Parable of the Sower and the different levels of Christian growth found therein (Matt. 13).  Some Christians will remain “babes in Christ,” little children in their spiritual growth, bearing only what Christ calls “30 fold fruit.  Some will grow to be stronger spiritually; these He calls “young men,” bearing “60 fold fruit” (I John 2: 13).  And then a few Christians are called and chosen to bear “100 fold fruit.”  They are the ones that the whole creation is “groaning and travailing” for.  They will do the “greater works,” greater even than the Son of God [His words, not mine], for there will be a few thousand of them raising the dead and healing the sick, and preaching the kingdom of God.  Understanding this is the key, Christ said, to unlocking all the mysteries contained in the parables of God (Matt. 13).

The elect, the future manifested sons of God, those who will do the greater works, they are forming right now.  God is speaking to their hearts, calling them out, preparing them through the joys of revelation and the despair of heartbreak and betrayal.  For “all things work together for good to them that love God, and who are the called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8: 28).

They can’t help it.  The mighty hand of God is moving upon them just like He moved on Moses, David, Gideon, and all the patriarchs and prophets and apostles.  “No man takes this honor unto himself,” as Paul said.  “It is God’s doing and it is marvelous in our eyes.”  The elect will not be the mighty men of this earth according to the flesh, for “He has chosen the weak things to confound the mighty” (I Cor. 1: 27).  We will be powerless, and yet possessing the reins of the very seat of the Power of the Universe.  It’s all Him.

And the elect, the chosen few, will “make their calling and election sure” through the study and prayer of a grateful heart (2 Peter 1: 10).

We may not fully realize it yet, but the stage is being set for the exciting climax of the Book of Life, poised to begin as we write this.  For the elect, the chosen ones of God, are its protagonists.  They are the living word of God, incarnate and living out what the Author and Finisher of the Book has written of them.  The stage is set; the curtain will rise shortly on the last act.  The players are learning their lines–Satan and his men, and God and His sons.

It is going to be good, for we have already read the script.  We win–in Him.

Be Established in the Present Truth–Walking in God’s Faith

The body of Christ, the church, is admonished to “be established in the present truth.”  We are to be in a stable walk with God that is called “the present truth.”

But what is this “present truth”?  To find the answer, we have to go back to Pilate’s question, “What is truth?”

Of course, the answer to that question was looking back at Pilate.  The Son of God said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”  He is the “Word made flesh” dwelling among us.  Truth is expressed in words, and Jesus/Yahshua is the living Word, the living expression of God’s thought, “the expressed image of the invisible God.”  He is the embodiment of the expression of the will and Word/Logos of God.  He is the truth.  He is “full of grace and truth, and we are to be established in “the present truth.”  We are to be stable in Him, the Truth, and we are to be stable in Him in the present–right now.

Since Christ is the truth, then how are we to be established in Him presently–right now?  We arrive at spiritual stability right now by faith.  For it is all by faith, by belief.  But the word “faith” is one of those worn-out words that mean so many different things to people that its original meaning is lost.

Now faith is…”  Can we believe right now what He said without first seeing the evidence of its ultimate fruition?  Can we believe His words when He said, “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world” (Matt. 28: 20).  His Spirit is with us though we cannot see it, for it operates like the wind which leaves behind evidence of its presence.

You can feel your skin cool as the wind breathes across your face.  You can see the leaves murmur and quiver at its presence.  So it is at this very moment with the Spirit–Him.  He is breathing in and even through  us.  Yet we cannot see Him, for He is an invisible Spirit with great power to move things like the wind.  “I am with you always,” He said.  It takes faith to walk in this knowledge.

Faith of our Father Abraham

But how does His faith work?  That’s right.  It is His faith, not ours, that He has given us to work with.  When we come to some knowledge of the truth, we must “reckon” it so, or count it as done.  We should have confidence in doing this, for it is His word that we are reckoning done.

For the scripture says, “And Abraham believed God, and it was accounted unto him for righteousness.”  In other words, our father of the faith believed what God said to him concerning having a son through Sarah–against all odds–and God considered Abraham righteous in His eyes because he believed Him when He said that Sarah, his elderly and barren wife, would have a son.

Abraham had to reckon it so–even though what God had promised was against everything that his five senses told him.  When God told him to sacrifice this miracle son Isaac a few years later, Abraham could have questioned God saying, “Wait a minute, God.  You promised that through Isaac I would have countless heirs.  If I kill him, that will be impossible, and your word will not come to pass.”  He could have used human reasoning, “leaning unto his own understanding.”

So what was in Abraham’s heart that led him to the mountaintop, knife in hand, intent on sacrificing his son Isaac?  Was he just another brainwashed religious nut, or did he hold the secret to the very key that unlocks all the spiritual mysteries and riches of God?

He had the secret to faith, and it is this: He believed that since God had told him to sacrifice Isaac, even though he did not understand it, God would evidently raise up Isaac from the dead after the sacrifice was completed.  For God had previously said that “in Isaac shall thy seed be called.”  God had said that through his son Isaac, his seed would be innumerable as the stars of the heaven.  “And he believed in the LORD/Yahweh; and He counted it to him for righteousness” (Gen. 15: 5-6; Rom. 4: 3).

Abraham believed God, “who quickens the dead, and calls those things that be not as though they were” (Rom. 4: 17).

Now, now, this same righteousness, this same state of being right with God, is ours–by the same faith that Abraham exhibited  “if we believe on Him that raised up Jesus/Yahshua from the dead” (4: 24).

For we are the ones now in Isaac’s place, “presenting our bodies a living sacrifice.”  And by believing that God will raise us up from the dead after we take our sinful hearts to the cross and let them die there with Christ, we can “walk in a newness of life” with His invisible Spirit as our heartbeat. We can walk in a righteous state like the patriarchs and prophets and apostles did centuries ago.  By faith.  By calling “those things that be not as though they were.”

This is how we will “be established in the present truth.”  This is how we will please God.  For “without faith it is impossible to please Him.”

We start out in His walk by believing in His resurrection in us.  But believing for our new heart is just the beginning.  As His Spirit grows in us, we will eventually believe God for the big one: We will look “for a city, whose builder and maker is God”–just like Abraham believed Him and looked for that same city.  And that is the New Jerusalem, the literal heavenly city that will sit down on the exact spot on the earth–on the very land that God promised to our father Abraham!

The Armor of God–Conversations With the Seer

(Formerly in Israel, if a man went to inquire of God, he would say, “Come, let us go to the seer,” because the prophet of today used to be called a Seer.  I Samuel 9: 9)

“The last time we talked, you mentioned the armour of God.  I have been thinking about it a lot lately.  And I’ve been studying it out.  But I’m really having difficulty grasping what it means, ‘to put on the whole armor of God.'” 

The Seer smiled at me and said, “It is difficult to grasp the heavenly things with a mind that is thinking on an earthly plane, and next to impossible to comprehend spiritual things with a finite mind.  It is difficult to understand because of unbelief.”

“But I believe,” I blurted out.

“You want to believe desperately,” the Seer said.  “I will grant you that, and that is good.  But wanting to believe and actually believing are two different matters.  Belief in the armor’s efficacy brings the ability to grasp its power.  It all goes back to trusting in His word.”

I was really confused now.  “Well, what is the armor of God exactly?”

“First, the armor is spiritual.  The apostle likens it to literal devices like shields, armor, a breastplate, a helmet, and a sword.   Through this extended metaphor, we take away the idea of a spiritual, protective layer.  It is the armor of God (Eph.6: 11-18).  And God is Spirit [1].  He is also truth.  Therefore, it is the armor of the Spirit and truth and light.  And we are to ‘put on the armor of light [2].'”

“And what is light?” I asked.

“Light is the life of God.  If you want to see light, then look at the Light in action by studying Christ.  Because ‘in Him was life; and the life was the light of men’ [3].  God dwelt in the Son of God fully [4].  God is life and ‘this life is in His Son.  He that has the Son has life'” [5].  When we truly receive this truth in our hearts, then we receive the secret to answered prayers [6].”

“Wait a minute.  I didn’t get all of that.  Let me see if I got this right.  God is the Spirit of Truth, which is light and life.  And the fullness of life and light dwelt in the Son of God.  And if we believe that, then we receive the same light and life of God, too.”

“That’s right,” the Seer said.  I don’t know if I was seeing things or not, but his smile radiated a glow of inner light.  He continued, “For, you see, since God dwelt fully in Christ, if we reject the Son of God, we reject the Father, as well, because the Father was inside the Son” [7].

“But how does all this tie in with the armor of God?”

“The armor of God is not some equipment that God possesses that He wants to give to us.  No. 

“The armor of God is God Himself!  It is a spiritual protective covering comprised of the invisible Spirit of God Himself.  Since His Spirit is truth, when we know and then believe the truth, we are believing God.  And by believing, God comes down into us.  When you believe the truth, the truth (God, Spirit) takes up His abode in us, and we become one with Him.  In other words, by believing all this truth how that the Father dwelt fully in the Son, giving light and life to the world–this truth is God, and through faith or belief of this truth, the Spirit of God comes into our hearts and minds.  This is the armour of God–God’s Spirit in our hearts and minds.”

We just sat there for what seemed an hour.  Finally I said, “I understand it now, but why haven’t the preachers told us about all this?”

“The only part of the apostle John’s writings they quote is John 3: 16.  They stay clear of the rest of his gospel and his three letters to the churches.”

“But why?  Why don’t they preach it?”

“Either they don’t know what is in John’s writings or they don’t have it in their hearts because they don’t believe it.  Either way, they will have to give an account to God about it.  I would like to think that the vast majority have not been taught these truths.  They have been taught old leaven from a hundred years ago.  There is no new light in them.  They are still preaching what their grandfathers did in the 1950’s, and they are proud of that fact.  Spiritual stagnancy is equal to spiritual bankruptcy.  However, ‘when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth’ [8].  But there I go quoting more of John’s gospel–the part they don’t like to read or quote.”

“He will guide you into all truth?” I asked.

“It is the ‘unsearchable riches of Christ’ [9].  ‘All truth’ are these unsearchable riches.  And if those  preachers are not leading their flocks into more and more astounding and fresh truth, then it is safe to say that the Spirit of truth does not reside in them.  Because that is the sign that a person has the Spirit of truth.  At least that is what John said.  And I’m sticking with him.”

“This is a lot to take in,” I said.

“We will save some for later,” the Seer said.

“There’s more about the armour?”

“It’s the unsearchable riches.  Remember?”
